Pure Service Excellence


Pure Service Excellence is an advanced, senior service course aimed at developing management skills and progressing to team leadership. The course focuses on the skills required to progress through the ranks of junior crew member to a senior role on board. This course covers all elements set out in the PYA GUEST III guidelines.

Course Outline

Communication is further expanded, with a focus on a chief steward/ess’ key job functions. Delegates are given the tools to develop leadership skills and to manage a team. Two live practical service sessions are scheduled for delegates to practice technical service skills and management skills. Students will also be required to practise and master Guéridon service, which includes fish filleting and meat carving. We will provide students with the tools to streamline guest preferences and acquire rigorous interior administrative skills, but also to prepare for guest trips and plan for on board events such as parties.

Key Outcomes

Through theoretical and practical training, delegates emerge armed with the knowledge to skilfully lead an interior team in service and ensure the flow through all aspects of the interior department.


This course is recommended for senior steward/esses with at least 12 months’ yacht service and 60 days’ guest service in a steward/ess position.


Prices are set at €2,000 per course for 2018, which includes all training materials for the five-day duration (10 days total with Interior Excellence) . The number of delegates per course is a maximum six to ensure optimal learning results. This course is also available on board and can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular yacht/team (maximum numbers vary for bespoke reservations).
